Class Descriptions
*A $50 lab fee applies to all technology classes due to technology costs
Action Contraption
Solve engineering design challenges, using science and creativity every step of the way. Leverage your knowledge of
forces, simple machines and conservation of energy to design and build Rube Goldberg machines and other complex
contraptions to complete simple tasks. Become the ultimate mechanical engineer, then design and build your own ball
machine just like the one in front of the Tech Museum!

Animation Sensation*
Learn the science and technology behind animation as you create eye-catching presentations. Work with Macromedia Flash
to learn stop motion, tweening and other techniques that make animation come to life. Create characters with realistic
movements and voices, and scenes with background sounds. Showcase your skills by developing your own animated commercial
or movie trailer, and then let the show begin!

Claymation* (NEW!)
Combine your artistic, creative and technical skills for our brand-new Claymation class. You'll have the chance to use
iStopMotion software, and learn about the technological details of stop-motion animation and time-lapse movies. Create
your own story and characters, form them with clay, film them frame-by-frame with special effects and a soundtrack,
and voila, you're on your way to becoming the next great Claymation artist!

Computer Programming*
Ever wondered how people dream up and create the computer programs you use every day? Do you love computers and logic?
Interested in Artificial Intelligence? Learn about variables, loops, conditional statements and data types. With specially
designed software for beginning programmers, you will understand the logic and basics of programming in no time - and use
your new skills to create your very own strategy games, graphics and puzzles. Ready, set, program!

Digital Video Masters*
Turn your cinematographic vision into a storyboard and script, and then direct a short movie. Or if you love music, get
creative with music and technology to direct a short music video. Learn to use cutting edge equipment and software to
record and edit your masterpiece. Take home your mini-movie or your music video on a DVD for your world premiere.
We provide all the gear and the Director's chair.

Green Design: Solar Engineering (NEW!)
Are you interested in renewable energy and all things Green? Learn how to harness the largest source of
free power we have, that big ball of fire in the sky. Investigate the science behind solar panels and construct everything
from solar-powered ovens to futuristic vehicles that can race in sun and shade alike. Become a solar engineer, and don't
forget the suntan lotion!

Inventor's Workshop
Develop the skills of designers and inventors, and watch that bright light bulb glow above your head. Work with a team to
design, build and test your own new inventions. Learn how to make electricity work for you by designing circuit diagrams
and switches, dismantling appliances to see their intricate insides, and wiring your own unique lamp to take home.
Before firing up your final inventions, don't forget to patent your ideas!

Junior M.D. (NEW!)
Did you know that two strangers share 99.9% of the same DNA? Become a doctor at our Tech Med School, and ace your boards by the
end of the week! Join us as we probe and explore our amazing body, its systems and the genetics that make us who we are.
Dissect an animal part or two, and discover how to both read revealing x-rays and use real medical instruments. Ultimately,
diagnose your patients and design your own experiment to help save their lives and keep them healthy.

Lego Robotics Beginning & Advanced* (NEW TECHNOLOGY!)
Learn basic and advanced techniques using the latest Lego Mindstorm NXT software and Technic building pieces. Design,
build, and program robots to take on real-world design challenges while learning engineering concepts from gear ratios
to levers and pulleys. Create a robot that can survive natural disasters, retrieve objects, and navigate difficult
terrain. The advanced level provides more in-depth programming skills and extra challenges for campers with previous Lego
Robotics experience.

Lego Robotics for Girls* (NEW TECHNOLOGY!)
Lego Robotics was a big hit with the ladies last summer, so we have reserved an entire week just for girls. Take on the
same design challenges using Lego NXT technology as in our other beginning classes, but solve them with a team of girls
who share your same science and engineering passions.

Roller Coaster Physics
Discover the physics and mathematics behind roller coasters as we take a thrilling ride through twists, loops and sharp
turns. Apply Newton's Laws to design, build and test various roller coasters, and work as a team to build the ultimate
coaster. Explore our state-of-the-art roller coaster software and take a virtual ride on The Tech's Cyclone coaster.
After you've created your coaster, decorate it and design an aerodynamic car to make it the coolest coaster in the park!!

Science of Sports
Ever wonder why a curve ball curves? Discover how Newton's Laws relate to all your favorite sports. Learn the physics
behind the momentum of a soccer ball, the aerodynamics of a Frisbee, the trajectory of a water balloon and much more. Use
your imagination to create your own sport that incorporates all your new knowledge into an exciting game to play with
friends. Get ready to have fun with sports outside in the sunshine, and get a little wet along the way! For athletes and
non-athletes alike.

Tech Explorers (REVISED!)
Become a Tech explorer as our staff leads a unique journey of discovery through the Tech Museum. Delve into the
current Tech exhibits by engaging in related design challenge activities and continue the fun and learning by exploring
the galleries. Learn what goes on behind the scenes at the IMAX Theater and see a movie on the big screen. Set out on your
own expedition through the museum on a Tech style scavenger hunt, and ultimately become a museum innovator to invent and
design your own Tech gallery.

Video Game Design Beginning & Advanced*
Do you dream of creating your own computer game world? In this computer-based class, you will
develop all the characters, the backdrop and rules of play. Learn about the basics of programming and game design
by building a game with graphics and sound effects. Master design puzzles to ultimately move your characters through
multiple levels of the game world that you have created. The advanced level provides an extra challenge for campers
with video game design experience.

Web Architects*
Work with a partner to design and publish an internet site for the company of your dreams. Use Macromedia Dreamweaver to
learn basic and advanced skills behind web page construction. Set the background, create frames and tables, insert
hyperlinks and spice it up with rollover buttons. Discover the HTML that is used at the foundation of your web page and
use photo editing software to add special touches. At the end of the week, celebrate your success with an internet launch
party!
